“Brief” Power Outage At Advanced Access adds 1,000 Hits!

Amazing what a ‘brief’ power outage at Advanced Access can do to this blog! I wonder if AA got 1,000 hits in the last four days. Going back and reading some of the 13 pages on the AA forum thread from when the lights went out on ‘Black Friday’ in May of 2006, it was astonishing to see how many agents had closed their accounts with Advanced Access. After that fiasco they posted this about their new server setup at the new location:

“The new data center is a state-of-the-art facility with multiple fiber paths for Internet connectivity, redundant environmental control systems, on-staff AC and electrical technicians and on-site backup diesel generators.”

The recent power outage only ranked as ‘brief’ although all sites were down during prime time for over four hours with a very weak explanation. Stay tuned………

  1. Great blog space Gene, you deserve a 1,000 times that many hits — I pass it along to those I know.

  2. Drew - Here’s an interesting article I came across today regarding Advanced Access 4.0 sites:

    http://www.realestatetoolbox.com/2008/01/27/advanced-access-40-yikeswarninglong/

  3. Wow, too bad the person who did the article has no clue what an AA site even looks like…

Oh, shall we take it apart?

1st, the site he shows as an example, is a 3.0 site not a 4.0 site… The homepage, well, it looks like the customer either hasn’t bothered to look at their page, or well, who knows, but it needs to be fixed… They did something screwy…

2nd, as I’m sure anyone who’s even bothered to look at the 4.0 sites can tell you, there is no Nav.aspx in 4.0.. no frames… Wow, this person is really trying to sell whatever it is he’s selling… He’s like a politician.. He doesn’t even have the time to get his facts straight… You really want to promote such garbage Gene?

  4. Sorry, but I didn’t write the article. Why not send the author an email and have him/her come back here and defend what they wrote? I’m only the messenger. Thanks for pointing out what you say is an error on the authors part.

  5. I did leave a comment on the other site as well… Didn’t mean to imply that you wrote it, as it said the authors name, but I was just pointing out that you were promoting the link, and even you should know the difference between a 3.0 and 4.0 site even if you don’t have a 4.0 site (I’m guessing that you should know the difference)… =)

  6. It wasn’t a template that I was familiar with, plus I don’t know enough about the difference between 3.0 and 4.0 to spot them. I only know what is reported on the forum which is very limited when it comes to the number of agents with 4.0 having access.

Do they still have to say “Mother may I ” in order to gain access to the forums?

  7. Well, not to get too wrapped up in the details of what it is and what it ain’t — I believe the point here is that AA is becoming a running joke. Just a few days ago I went to a sales presentation from Property Minders at our Realtor Association — and even these guys — who have about the worst product I’ve seen (and the food wasn’t that great either) — got a roomfull of chuckles by simply displaying a few AA pages.

Someone in AA programming goofed-up in October (see forum for details), and you can now find wack AA pages all over the place.

  8. Why all the AA hate when even with it’s shortcomings AA is much better than sites like z57 and Superlative?

  9. @ Gene - it’s just not automatic. Anyone and everyone can have access to the forums however.

@ drew - not sure what you mean, other than an image maybe not being updated with the correct year on an Intellicard image… That’s been corrected and shouldn’t happen in the future from what I’ve heard…

As far as showing webpages, I can’t really comment on that lol.. I’ve been on the internet long enough to have seen what people can do, to just about any page… I’ve seen what people have done to AA sites, and to be honest, quite a few people scratch their heads at how people manage to get things so screwed up… Should I blame my webhost for my webpage looking like crap if I’m the one doing all of the changes to it? I don’t see how (although a lot of customers try)…

It’s up to you, use it or not, but “…Rich Shaw who is arguably one of the most successful SEO experts in the real estate industry” I would say, is VERY arguable… hehe…

Even if you don’t know anything really about 4.0, you’ve probably heard that the login is different… Go to the site in the example, and click on the lock… what VO do you get? Looks like your 3.0 login doesn’t it? It doesn’t ask for a username AND password… just a password… This so called “expert” didn’t even take the time to actually see of verify what he was saying…

Not to mention the realtor in question can’t even spell “you’ve” … (look at the top… youv’e … sigh)

  10. Actually let me reword my last statement hehe…

“Anyone and everyone can have access to the forums however.”

Should be: Any AA customer can have access to the forums however…It’s just not automatic (yet) like the 3.0 site customers.

  11. (Yet), (soon), (coming soon), (Minor technical issues), (Not compatible), (used to be available in 3.0, no longer in 4.0), (sites down), looks like a trend. As soon as my contract is up in 2 months I am out.

I heard Larry Lokker moved on to Realigent…? Or is it Fidelity now. Can anyone confirm this? Is he a sales rep there?

  12. To “Does it really matter”

When you added the “hehe” to one of your posts above, you may have given away your identity since there is only ONE person from AA that I ever saw use that numerous times in the forum. My lips are sealed, though! :-)

  13. Diggler - I agree that Z57 and Superlative sites aren’t very impressive but for those that have or had AA sites, all we want is a reliable site……a site that remains online with quality features and great Customer Support. I don’t think that is too much to ask since they’ve been there before. It’s not like they don’t know HOW to do these things but just a matter of implementation even if it takes new management and personel to get it accomplished. If selling the company to someone like Landmark would improve their operation I’m sure we would all encourage it. If totally dumping 4.0 and starting with something designed on a more familiar platform is the answer, then go for it. No one ‘hates’ Advanced Access, we just compare what it has become to what it once was and would like it to once again climb back to that status. That can only happen with change.

  14. Dirm — the problem that is making AA the the object of ridicule is this:

Page Editor > Link Menu > Frame Checkbox

Check this box and pages display great in all browsers

Uncheck this box and pages are messed up in all browsers,
    especially Firefox and Safari

If you’d stop whining about being picked on and blaming everyone else — you might be able to start fixing these problems — then all of this would simply go away and poor old Gene would be stuck here swapping recipes and reliving the good ol’ days.

Oh, and it’s not polite to make fun of someone’s spelling when one can’t even spell “or” — “to actually see of verify what he was saying”… sigh

  15. Gene hey it’s Anna, I hope you are well!

I am a lurker here, just out of curiousity, and don’t comment on anything here. I am thinking the “hehe” remark was assuming you thought it was me since I do that a lot (too much probably ;)), but it isn’t and in fact I have no clue who that poster is. Remember I’ve been out since Oct for my pregnancy and haven’t been doing any AA stuff since then, and won’t be until my return in May-ish. Just clarifying for the “masses” that it isn’t me commenting.

  16. Anna - You knew that was my thought :-) so I’m glad that you stopped by to set me straight! It’s always good to hear from you and you are sorely missed on the AA forum. Little Aidan must be about three by now. Is he going to have a brother or a sister or did you elect not to find out? I remember the photo I got of Aidan from a secret source showing off his early skills.

  17. Aidan will be 3 in June :) We want to know if I’m having a boy or girl but the baby just won’t show the goods. (I would normally put hehe there but now I’m all self concious ;))

  18. Anna- hope you are well. SD- Bob has been asking about you - talk to him at all?

  19. Hi Darla :)

I have been very off the radar since the 1st of October - had a doc appt and they pulled me very unexpectedly and early.

So I won’t be coming back into “the world” until 8 weeks after I deliver. I am probably having the baby via c-section on or around March 29th (a week before my “due” date).

Hope you are well too, feel free to give my best to Bob :)

  20. Drewww…. lol, yes we all make typo’s however here, I can’t correct it once I submit it.

I wasn’t trying to be mean actually, I just meant that it was a really bad example of a site to use, good or bad… I would imagine that it was a better site to use as an “example” as people who pay attention to either of these guys might actually think that this was a “demo” site by AA … oh well, doesn’t really matter, I was just making a point (and it wasn’t directed at the site owner really)…

And Gene, no I’m not Anna (as she said), although I do wish her well with everything. I’d have to say that as an employee, I’m probably not suppose to post here, good or bad, so I’ve changed a lot everything I do just in case I say something that isn’t politically correct.

  21. Dirm - We welcome comments with all perspectives and appreciate your input on the site that was really a 3.0 site. At one time I said I wasn’t going to accept comments with phony names but I know that in order for anyone associated or previously associated with AA, it might be difficult to comment without using an alias. Also, I would never reveal the email address that they used for posting.

I used to have a website apposed to Realtor.com (JustSayNo2R.com) and even Alan Dalton and his staff would post on there. He wound up inviting me to a big event in Chicago as his guest even though my site detailed all the Homestore people who went to jail and apposed the new fees from ‘unbundling’ their services. Eventually, as things leveled off and I created my site with AA, I gave up hosting the other site and life moved on. Please continue to post here. :-)
